Students are asking real questions about faith. And even students who want to follow Jesus often wonder what it actually looks like in real life. Some wrestle with belief. Some feel unsure. Some are curious but hesitant. And even students who want to follow Jesus often wonder what it actually looks like in real life.

It’s one thing to talk about faith in a church building. It’s another thing to live it out amid school drama, friendship tension, family conflict, and everyday decisions. That’s where faith can start to feel disconnected.

This is Real Life is a four-week teaching series designed to bridge that gap. This series helps students see that Jesus isn’t just present in worship services or small groups — He’s present in classrooms, cafeterias, text threads, family dinners, and everyday decisions. Faith isn’t something they turn on at church and off at school. It’s something they carry into every space they inhabit.

If you’ve ever had students ask: “How do I follow Jesus at school?” “What do I do about my friends?” “Why does how I treat my family matter?” “How do I make wise choices?” then this series gives them practical, relatable answers.

Many students compartmentalize their faith. Church life and real life feel like two separate worlds. As a result, they struggle to connect biblical truth to daily situations. They underestimate how much friendships influence them. They don’t see family interactions as part of discipleship.
They make decisions without slowing down to seek God’s wisdom.

This is Real Life helps students integrate faith into their everyday environments. Each week provides clear teaching, relatable illustrations, discussion prompts, and practical next steps students can apply immediately.

This isn’t abstract theology. It’s hallway-level discipleship. Each week tackles a core area of students’ lived experience:

Week 1 — Stuck in the Middle
Big Idea: Middle school can feel messy, but Jesus is with you in it.
Scripture: Colossians 3:17; Matthew 5:14–16

Students explore what it means to follow Jesus at school, not just at church. They’ll discover that their faith shows up in classrooms, friendships, lunch tables, and even group projects. Through Jesus’ teaching about being the light of the world, students will identify one practical way to reflect Christ in their school life that week.

Week 2 — Who Is in Your Circle?
Big Idea: Friends shape who you become.
Scripture: Proverbs 13:20; John 15:12–13

Students examine how friendships influence their character, faith, and choices. They’ll evaluate the voices in their lives and consider what it means to both choose wise friendships and be a wise friend. This week encourages honest reflection without shaming students for current relationships.

Week 3 — Homemade Faith
Big Idea: Following Jesus means loving and honoring your family, even when it’s tough.
Scripture: Ephesians 6:1–3; Romans 12:10

Students often think faith has little to do with how they treat siblings or parents. This message challenges that assumption. They’ll learn that discipleship starts at home and be encouraged to take one practical step toward kindness, honor, or forgiveness in their family relationships.

Week 4 — Real Life, Real Decisions
Big Idea: Your choices shape your story.
Scripture: James 1:5; Proverbs 3:5–6

Students explore how everyday decisions — big and small — form the direction of their lives. They’ll learn to slow down, seek wisdom, and invite God into their decision-making. This study ends with students identifying a real choice they’re facing and intentionally asking God for guidance.

Students don’t need more abstract lessons about faith. They need help living it out in their friend groups, dinner tables, hallways, and in their decisions. Because discipleship doesn’t start someday. It starts Monday morning.
