Details
Squad Spell takes the classic spelling bee format and turns it into a high-stakes team competition. Instead of one brave speller standing at the microphone, a squad of students works together to spell a word one letter at a time. So think fast, trust your teammates, and hope the next person doesn’t panic under pressure, because if you miss a letter, the other team can steal the point by finishing the word correctly.
With rotating team sizes, strategic steals, and fast-paced rounds, Squad Spell keeps everyone engaged from start to finish.
The goal is simple: score more points than the other team before time runs out.
How the Game Works
1. Divide Into Two Teams
2. Spin the Wheel
3. Present the Word Using the Provided Videos
4. Spell the Word (One Letter at a Time)
Players cannot skip their turn or receive help from teammates or the audience.
If the team spelling the word makes a mistake, the other team gets a chance to steal the point by spelling the word correctly. If the stealing team also misses, the round simply ends, and no points are awarded.
How Rounds Flow
Each time the wheel selects a group of students, those same players stay on stage for two words.
The sequence works like this:
Team A attempts to spell the first word.
Team B can steal if Team A misses.
Team B then receives a new word to attempt.
Team A gets a chance to steal if Team B misses.
After both words are completed, spin the wheel again and select a new number of players from each team for the next round.
This game includes 20 spelling rounds, more than most groups will use in a single game session.
This gives you flexibility to:
Choose easier or harder words depending on your group
Skip around the list as needed
Reuse this game multiple times without repeating the same words
Winning the Game
Each correctly spelled word earns one point… or 1000 points. It’s completely up to you.
The team with the most points wins!
