REAL ONES is a three-week series on what it means to be a real friend in a superficial culture. What does real love actually look like for students today? It's not the kind they post about. It's not the kind they joke about. And it's not the kind that lasts until someone gets left out. Real love—the kind that sees people, includes people, and shows up when it matters most—is getting harder to find. And students feel it. They’re surrounded by surface-level connections through group chats, social media, and casual friendships, but they still experience judgment, exclusion, and relationships that don’t go very deep.

REAL ONES is a three-week teaching series that helps students rediscover what real love looks like—and how to live it out in everyday life.
This series challenges students to move beyond labels, beyond cliques, and beyond “easy” relationships to love the way Jesus loves: with compassion, courage, and consistency. Each message builds on the last, helping students move from awareness to action.

Week 1 — See People, Not Labels
Big Idea: Real love looks past judgment and sees people with God’s eyes.
Scripture: Luke 7:36–50; James 2:1–4

Students explore how easy it is to label others, and how damaging that can be. Through the story of Jesus and the “sinful woman,” they’ll see how Jesus looks beyond reputation to the person underneath. This week challenges students to notice their assumptions and begin to see people with compassion rather than judgment.

Week 2 — Show Up with Empathy
Big Idea: Real ones don’t ghost—they care, listen, and stay.
SCRIPTURE: Romans 12:9–16; Galatians 6:2

Students discover that real friendship isn’t just about being around, but about being present. They’ll explore what it means to show up in both joy and pain, to listen instead of fix, and to stay when things get uncomfortable. This week challenges students to become more emotionally available, honest, and consistent in their relationships.

Week 3 — Stand Out
Big Idea: The love of Jesus sets you apart and pulls others in.
Scripture: John 13:34–35; Matthew 5:14–16

Students discover that love is the defining mark of a Jesus-follower. It's not popularity or talent or image. Through Jesus’ words about love and light, students will be challenged to practice “surprising love” through kindness, patience, forgiveness, and inclusion.

Students don’t need more reminders to “be nice.” They need a vision for a kind of love that actually stands out. It's a love that sees people, shows up, and reflects Jesus.
