One might think the idea of taking a break from work and having sabbath time in life would be pretty easy, but our western culture runs contrary to the concept of rest that it is easier said than done. Numerous studies have suggested that today’s teens are the most stressed-out generation ever, and the lack of rest is a big part of that. Homework, school, jobs, sports, chores, clubs, youth group, and oh yea, sleep, exercise, and meals… It just feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day.

Viva! Sabbath explores the critical Biblical practice of Sabbath. In the Genesis 1:1-2:3 creation story, God only blesses two aspects of creation: humans and the Sabbath. More than that, there is only one reference to something being holy in the entire book of Genesis, and that’s the Sabbath day. In this four week series, students will look at the importance of Sabbath, why it can be so difficult and what they can do to instill healthy practices in their lives. Specifically, this resource investigates the following:

Week 1: God Rested
Week 2: Lord of the Sabbath
Week 3: Be Still
Week 4: My Yoke is Easy
