Thanks to some really smart and creative people, did you know that we can quantify just how spicy a pepper is? That means you can tell your students mathematically just how much hotter other peppers are than a jalapeno, but not before they try to guess themselves!
Each round, the peppers get hotter (or stay the same). How much hotter than a jalapeno is a Thai pepper? How about a Habanero? How about a Carolina Reaper? In this game, find out!
Check out the level-up experience document for ways to integrate the food into the game itself!
Ways to play:
• Have students go head-to-head to guess how much hotter than a jalapeno that round's pepper is (I recommend 2-4 students in a closest-without-going-over format.)
• Have one student establish a guess, and the rest of the room must guess if that student's guess is too low, too high, or just right
• Everyone plays in a group, and you award points for guesses within a certain boundary that you establish (like within 10)
• Use this game as a brief transition between elements of your service--just have kids shout out their answers until you hear the right number from the crowd
