In this game, students race to be the first to find the Bible verse on the screen, read it, and explain what it means to them.

Details

This is an upfront game for your weekly youth program. It can be played using groups, with one person from each group taking turns against someone from the other groups.

Back in the day, this was called a "sword drill," where students would quickly race to find the Bible verse reference.

Use the graphics provided to place a Bible verse one at a time on the screen. Select as many participants as you desire for each round to race against one another.

The first person to find the verse reads it out loud. Encourage them to share what the verse means to them.

Set the expectation before selecting participants that there is a sharing component beyond just finding and reading the verse.

Have some physical Bibles available for students who may not have one. Take a few moments to explain how to use a physical Bible (i.e., using the table of contents, chapters, and verse numbers).

Split up each round by switching between using physical Bibles and digital Bibles to give all students an opportunity to participate. Don’t allow students to use digital and physical Bibles in the same round.

This Resource Includes:

  • Complete PowerPoint game file
  • Individual (10 rounds + instructions) game slides (jpeg files)
  • Game Instructions (Word file)
  • Title slide (jpeg file)

About this Product
Start the game by showing students how to use a physical Bible. Start by showing them the table of contents and then explaining the use of chapter and verse numbers. (Don't assume all students know how to find a Scripture passage in a Bible.)
