Looking for a hilarious, high-energy game that instantly gets your students talking, laughing, and debating in a fun (and safe!) way. Controversial Questions is a crowd-pleasing discussion game that poses light-hearted but ""hot take"" type questions and asks students to pick a side. This game is perfect for breaking the ice, sparking conversation, and even building connections between students who usually wouldn’t talk.
From “Is water wet?” to “Does pineapple belong on pizza?” — students will have strong opinions, and that’s what makes it so fun! It’s great for both large and small group settings and works for middle school or high school students.
How to Play:
Display a controversial question on screen with two answer choices. Students move to one side of the room based on their answer, and you let the (friendly) chaos unfold! Pick a few students to explain their side before moving to the next question.
Bonus Variation: Use it as a panel-style game with a few student leaders or volunteers on stage. Let them defend their answers while the crowd votes with applause.
This game solves the “what do we do while students arrive?” problem and makes for a killer pre-service or mid-program activity that will get everyone engaged.
