Editor's note: "I hate that this is a thing and I love that it is a thing. This is really well done and all student ministries should have some form of document like this."

This Student Safety Policy is a document for your staff and volunteer leaders that protects your students, your leaders and the integrity of your ministry. The 10-page document gives a clear and detailed description of how adults should interact with students both in-person and online, from weekly ministry environments to out-of-town events. It has been researched by some of the best student ministries around the country and reviewed by a lawyer. It includes policies for: transportation, social media/technology, overnight events, sexually-oriented conversations, discipline and more.

This Resource Includes:
• How to use this resource document (Word file)
• Student Safety Policy (Word file)
• Leader sign-off form (Word file)
• Graphic (jpeg file)

Note from the Author

This Student Safety Policy has been used in our church for several years now. We have made multiple updates based on situations that have occurred in our student ministry and from research done through talking to other student ministries around the country. In addition, we have sought advice from lawyers within our church to be sure everything is communicated clearly and within our state and national guidelines. Before implementing this in your church, it is strongly recommended that you look this over with your senior church leadership and possibly seek legal counsel as you adapt this document to the needs of your student ministry. We use this Student Safety Policy by giving it to all new leaders who serve in direct ministry with our students (such as small group leaders). We give this document to new leaders and go over it with them in detail to see if there are any questions or concerns. In addition to this document, we also conduct an interview and background check on every new leader. For those who choose to serve in our ministry, we ask them to sign that they have read, understand and will abide by the guidelines in this safety policy.

There are plenty of people who are grateful that you do what you do. Your students are, their families are, and your church is, even though they may not say it often enough. I want to say thanks on behalf of them, and model the way we need to be saying thanks to the leaders that serve alongside us—in ten different ways—through this ebook.

Thank YOU!
