Learning through personal experience will typically produce better and longer lasting results than formal lecture. Often, we talk to students about the choices they "should" make, or what, "the Bible says" about certain topics, but when a teenagers discovers truth for him/herself, the result is powerful. Their faith becomes both real and personal.Give your students the privilege to discover truth with the resource: "Pretty Hurts: A Media Driven Experience for Students"
This interactive service experience is designed to equip your students to think through their media choices and the impact those choices makes in their lives.
By using the song "Pretty Hurts"… from pop/hip-hop icon Beyonce'… as an example, students engage in a process that creates critical thinking and powerful discernment skills.
This sermon/experience places students in a position of personal leadership and places you as a leader into a facilitator’s role. The resource you will guide students through a multi-step process (the same process that can be used with virtually ANY media piece with only minor tweaking).
As a bonus you will gather valuable data from your student group through using this resource. You can use this data to (1) learn the media choices your students' are currently making, (2) find out what's popular in their world, and (3) provide parents with key insight/perspective into their children’ lives. We collected the data (steps 1-5—which will make sense when you use this resource) and we were shocked by what we learned from our students.
