A five-week series examining what it means to be a Christian.

Details

Editor’s note: Solid, well-written series.

What is a Christian? Who is a Christian? What does it take to be a Christian? A Christian is a “little Christ,” a follower of Jesus, and Jesus in the flesh in all that he or she does. Being a Christian is not temporary or something that can be set aside. Being a Christian is a commitment to a particular lifestyle.

This five-week series examines the Christian life from several different angles, as students are challenged to follow Jesus with their lives. Beyond mere factual descriptions, this series seeks to bring students into a greater relationship and commitment with Jesus.

Week One – “Claim the Name”
Scripture: Acts 11:26, Acts 26:28, 1 Peter 4:16, Acts 24:14, John 14:6
If we are to take on the name “Christian,” we are taking on the name and reputation of Jesus Christ. Anything other than Jesus is not worthy to be called “Christian.”

Week Two – “Called to What”
Scripture: Deuteronomy 7:6, John 1:12, John 15:15, Romans 8:16-17, 1 Corinthians 1:2
God calls us names, and God calls us to do important things. God not only calls you and me His treasured possession, a son/daughter, friend, prince/princess, and a holy saint, but these names all have purposes associated with them.

Week Three – “Christ in You”
Scripture: Colossians 1:24-29, Philippians 3:8-9
Being a Christian becomes who you are when you realize that Christ is in you. Christ is in you, and you are in Christ at all times and in all places.

Week Four – “Known by Love”
Scripture: John 13:1-17, 34-35, 1 Corinthians 2:1-3
To be a Christian means that we are primarily known by love. The way you love others, including your enemies, is a good indicator of the health of your relationship with Jesus.

Week Five – Set Apart

Scripture: John 17:14-18, 1 Peter 1:14-16, 22
A Christian is a person called by God to live a life set apart. A Christian is to be insulated, not isolated.
