Using famous last words, this three week series on Deuteronomy explores Moses' final message to the Israelites, covering God's love for us, our responsibility to the poor and marginalized, and our call to choose God.

Details

The final book of the five books of Moses, Deuteronomy is Moses' last words to the Israelites before he died and they entered the Promised Land. Using famous (and funny) last words from history, as well as New Testament connections, this series walks students through the three main themes of Deuteronomy. Moses' final words for his people 3400 years ago are just as relevant for believers today.

Week One: God Simply Loves. Moses reminded the Israelites of the covenant and the reason for our salvation: God simply loves us. No strings attached, no works required.

Week Two: Care for the Poor. Throughout Scripture, God's heart for the poor, the suffering, the marginalized, is a reoccurring theme. For Moses, it was critical that the Israelites knew this as they began to form a nation.

Week Three: Choose to Follow. With perhaps the most famous passage in the Old Testament, the Shema, Moses made the case for why the Israelites should choose to follow God. Jesus built on this with His assertion that this is the greatest command in Matthew 22:36-40.
