Details

Doug's note: Brilliant! This will CRUSH! Our entire youth group is into Among Us.

"Actin' Sus" is an in-person “Mafia” style game inspired by the online game/app, “Among Us.” Use for a fun event, or icebreaker before the teaching time, "Actin' Sus" will be a hit with your group.

Students will love the challenge as they take on the role of a crew traveling through space, trying to find the Stowaways sabotaging their ship and eliminating Crewmates. Students will scramble to find the missing pieces of the ship (Challenge Cards) and identify the Stowaways before they are all eliminated.

The game can be played outside or in the church building; all you need to do is print the gameplay cards included!

Note on COVID-Friendliness: Tagging is the only time players are in close proximity or potentially have contact. This can be adjusted for no-contact play by giving all players a tool they carry as for repairing the ship (e.g., a section of pool noodle) which stowaways would then use to tag/eliminate crewmates with.

Time Needed to Play: Similar to Mafia, 25 people could play and have it be over in minutes because they manage to identify the mafia members right away. Or, it could 20+ minutes because they keep guessing wrong and the stowaways take their time eliminating people. The nice thing with using cards for the challenges is that instead of resetting elaborate challenges like some in-person versions of Among Us have been doing, this just requires a leader to run around and re-hide the cards - it's a quick turnaround for starting another round. A group would either play a quick round as part of a night with other programming, or a larger group could just plan on making a night of it and playing 2-4 rounds depending on how fast people are able to win.

Group Size: It’s best with at least 8-10 players, the instructions do include guidelines for scaling up in size (print more cards, have two stowaways for every eight crew mates).

For the Boomers, "sus" is Gen Z for "suspicious." As in, "Doug Fields is sus, vote him off."
