"Alien Invasion” is a video-based game where your students get to choose their own adventure based on the choices that they make. My students have absolutely loved games like “Dead Cat” and “Loot and Lunacy."" “Alien Invasion” is based on those two games! Imagine that your youth group must protect the world from a wacky alien named Zorg…now imagine that in order to keep the earth from total planetary destruction, your group would have to make some pretty ridiculous decisions when faced with some even more ridiculous circumstances. The choices the on-screen hero makes and the fate of the world is entirely up to you and your students.
\r\n\r\nGameplay Rules:
\r\nFor each scenario (11 scenes total), your group will be faced with a multiple-choice decision that directly affects the fate of the world. Make the right decision, and your group will progress through the game. Make the wrong decision and it's game over for planet Earth!
Running the Game:
\r\n“Alien Invasion” is a unique game because it is entirely run and explained by an on-screen narrator. While the narrator pretty clearly explains the rules of the game, it would be helpful to have someone that you trust running your ProPresenter. Every round, there are four possible answers that your students can choose from and each of these options is represented by a different number (One, Two, Three, and Four). The individual running ProPresenter will need to pay attention to which option is chosen each round and select the corresponding video (the numbers do correspond with colors, and the thumbnails match
\r\nappropriately for easy recognition). After each question, someone will need to ask the crowd which choice they intend to make in order to progress through the game.
Gameplay:
\r\nIf, at any point, your students LOSE a round, the game must be stopped until the next youth group get-together. This is perfect for a “retreat style” game. A great way to play this game is to have this game span over a period of time (a whole weekend, a few weeks, even a whole month). Your students will undoubtedly make some good choices to advance deeper and deeper into the game…but they will also probably LOSE a round at some point. When this happens, you have the freedom to ‘close up shop’ on the game until the next session/youth group time. The game is designed in a way that if your group is absolutely horrible at making decisions, it could take your group over two months to finish the game. Or you can complete it in one sit-down. The choice is yours.
